2020 Approaching Quickly!

Another year is nearing it’s end as 2020 is about to arrive. This is a great time to look back on the year and enjoy the highlights before looking forward at what you plan on accomplishing, improving, and changing in your life over the next 366 days! (Yep its a leap year) With an extra day coming next year we all have another 24 hours to get achieve our goals or just one day to enjoy.

To get the of f one the right start lets put the pen to paper and make a list of the accomplishments made in 2019! Aim for 5-10 items that made the year examples include: New job, graduation, first home, or ran a 5K! These will be different for everyone of us and they should be because we are all our one person. Now make a list of the 5-10 goals/accomplishments you want achieve in 2020. This is a great time to challenge yourself. Remember there is no bad answer as long as it is what you want. Examples could be; Remodel kitchen, Save X amount, or become CPR certified. One important element in setting the goals for the year is being very specific, the more precise you can be the better. Another important chacteristic for your goals should be to make it measurable. Try to avoid blanket statements or generalizing. NONE of the following :

” be better at…” “do more of…” “try too…”

Phrase your goals in a way that is optimistic, speak it into happening.

Here are my goals. I break mine into different aspects of life i find important. Make yours however works best for you.

This year (2020) is going to be my best year yet because i am going to work even harder, with more focus and determination then ever to achieve my goals. The areas i am going to focus on are fitness, knowledge, finances, and family.

I have been known to border on the line of obssisive about my weight, i blame it on my years of wrestling and having to make weigh-ins. None the less weight is not the best factor or measurement for health/fitness nor is BMI for that matter. That is why in 2020 i am going to give myself a physical fitness test once a month. I feel this will give me a better gauge of my fitness and motivate me to workout on a regular basis. The test will consist of : 1 minute Push ups as many as possible, NO time as many pull ups as possible, 1 mile run, and 10 squats at most weight possible. Goals are 60+ Pushups, Over 12 pull ups, sub 7 minute mile, and 225+ lbs for 10 reps on squats.

In the knowledge catergory i would like to read 24 books to improve general knowledge and keep my mind sharp. This will also help me in my career fields, relaxing in free time, and give me conversation topics.

Finances i want to create a budget that allows a for enough surplus to put money into an emergency savings of 1 year worth of bills. This reduces my stress level more than anything knowing that i am financial secure and makes me a more enjoyable person to be around.

I love my family and they are more important to me then any other catergory i want to improve on. In fact they are a huge reason for the above. I want to be the best me i can be for them, i want to provide a stress free life, be a good example, and be with them as much as I possibly can. My goals with them are to have a family breakfast once a week, a family dinner once a week, to take my wife on a date night once a week, and to tell them one reason I love them at least once a week.

Thats it for my goals this year. I will also make a bullet point version for a quick reminder and to check myself on the regular. The above statemnts just help pinpoint and drive home the thoughts and feelings i have daily.

I wish you all a happy new year! Enjoy the holidays and Get To Work!
