When you are house hunting you have to know what matters to you.
What is a most have and what you are willing to live without.
Many homes are similiar but rarely will you find two the same.
House Hunting Basics:
Square Feet
# of beds
# of baths
Lot size
Price Range
City/Zipcode
The above are what most search engines will ask for when doing a home search.
Every home has the list above so answering these questions does not tell much about what you specifically want in your future home.
They are all great starter but will not help narrow down the must have for your personal taste.
Home Finding Novice:
School Zones
Distance to work/park/gym
Desired flooring (carpet/tile/wood/other)
Yard (sloped/flat/wooded/other)
Age of Home
Will help narrow down the vague searching to a more ideal home.
Dream Home Locator Advanced:
Patio/Deck/Covered Porch
Gas Heater or Electric
Gas Water Heater/Solar/Electric
Facing North/South/East/West
View of woods/city/water
Knowing what you want from the above listed will help you enjoy your home more for the years to come, by finding a home with what you want you do not have to remodel or renovate right after moving in. You will be able to enjoy the new place from day one.
Many of the advanced list can be later updated or improved at most locations, however if you can find an existing property with everything you want you can move in sooner without any of the headache from the building process.
The more specific you can be when searching for your home the happier you will be when you find the right one. Unless you plan on building you probably will not find everything you desire in a home, but knowing what you desire will help you get close.
Good luck, find your home!
